DJ NEWS · TWO-MINUTE READ
A million plays sounds lovely. A million computers listening to each other sounds like the world’s least enjoyable afterparty.
In its 21 July 2026 update, Deezer reported that fully AI-generated tracks had exceeded half of new uploads on peak days in June. It also said up to 85% of streams on fully AI-generated tracks were fraudulent in 2025. These are Deezer’s platform-specific findings, not a verdict on every artist using AI.
That distinction matters. Using a tool to explore an idea and manufacturing an audience are different actions. Neither a waveform nor a follower count can tell the whole story of someone’s creative effort.
Give people a reason to return
For DJs releasing tracks or sharing mixes, the practical lesson is simple: don’t let impressive-looking numbers replace actual connection.
Instead of chasing a magical promotion promise, share one reason you chose a track. Explain a transition. Credit the artists. Ask listeners which moment stayed with them. A thoughtful reply is something you can learn from; a mysterious spike is often just something you can screenshot.
Be clear about your own creative process, including tools that materially shape the work. That gives listeners context without turning every release into an argument.
And if your new mix has twelve listeners, breathe. Twelve people choosing your music is a beginning. Meet them with another good mix and an honest conversation.
You are building a relationship with an audience. The spreadsheet can wait outside the booth.
